AbstractThe accumulation of mutations is frequently associated with alterations in gene function leading to the onset of diseases, including cancer. Aiming to find novel genes that contribute to the stability of the genome, we screened the Saccharomyces cerevisiae deletion collection for increased mutator phenotypes. Among the identified genes, we discovered MET7, which encodes folylpolyglutamate synthetase (FPGS), an enzyme that facilitates several folate-dependent reactions including the synthesis of purines, thymidylate (dTMP) and DNA methylation. PURINE AND PYRIMIDINE NUCLEOTIDES IN THE BRAIN OF NORMAL AND CONVULSANT RATS

— Purine and pyrimidine nucleotides were measured in the brain of normal and electroshocked rats after chromatographic separation on ion-exchange resin of mono-, di- and tri-phosphorylated derivatives. CMP, IMP and NAD did not show any significant quantitative change. Adenine nucleotides showed an abrupt change followed by a rapid return to the control value. GTP was the only purine nucleotide exhibiting a relatively slow return to its starting concentration. Pharmacological characterization of Uracil nucleotide-sensitive P2Y receptors in mouse ileum

Since uracil nucleotide-preferring receptors, belonging to the P2Y receptor family and responding to either uridine triphosphate (UTP) or uridine diphosphate (UDP), have been proposed to be present at different cellular level in the gut, regulating various functions, we aimed to investigate whether their activation by uracil nucleotides may modulate the contractility of the intestinal muscle. Experiments were carried out in vitro, and the contractility of the longitudinal muscle from mouse ileum was recorded as changes of the isometric tension. Abstract Bleomycin, an antibiotic, inhibits the DNA-dependent DNA polymerase from Rauscher murine leukemia virus. Higher concentrations of BLM ∗ are required to inhibit it's RNA-dependent DNA polymerase. These inhibition effects of the non-competitive type are not altered by preincubation of the DNA with BLM. Under comparable conditions neither the DNA-dependent DNA polymerase activity from E. coli and mouse liver nor the DNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity from mouse lymphoma cells are affected by BLM.
